One of My Greatest Achievement as a 7 Year Old
Witten by: Nicholas Pierino Puorro
(1st Grader)

Who am I
My name is Nicholas Puorro. I was born at Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Paterson on
October 6, 2000. I have one four year old sister named Gianna. I am seven years
old and like to do many things. My favorite is Taekwondo. I also like to play
sports. I like soccer, baseball and basketball. I play the piano because I like
music. Music makes me relax. I like to spend the summer down the shore with my
family. We always go for boat rides. When we are not at the shore, we like to
swim at the town pool. Swimming is so much fun.
The Meaning of The Egg
The egg is like life. It is delicate and precious. For two weeks I will have to
carry a raw egg with me where ever I go and make sure nothing happens to it. I
must stay focussed and take this job seriously because if I don’t I will not get
my black belt. It teaches me how to help people and care for life. This
means staying away from drugs, smoking and alcohol.

Meditation
Meditation is when I relax. It helps me to free my mind of
any worries that I have during the day. This helps me concentrate better and do
the best that I can.
Fasting
Fasting is not eating junk food like soda, candy, and cookies. I must fast for 3
days before my black belt test to be healthy and strong in body and mind. This
sacrifice will help me gain confidence, patience and self control.

What I Gained From Taekwondo
I have learned to believe in myself and to respect others. Taekwondo is the art
of getting to know your mind, body and inner strength. It is about self control
and to respect all living things.
What Does First Dan Black Belt Mean to Me
Getting my black belt is special to me. When I’m a black belt, I will try out
for the swat team and do nun chucks. But most of all, I have proved that by
working hard I can do anything I put my mind to.

Contributions to Taekwondo
I have been doing Taekwondo since I have been four years old. I have been to
class two times a week and now as a junior black belt, three times a week. I was
a student of the month two times and most recently Most Outstanding Student
because of my hard work, dedication, respect for others, assisting lower belts
and I practice what I have learned.
My Responsibilities as a Black Belt
As a black belt I must always show respect to everyone. I must do the best that
I can and always finish what I start. As a black belt, I will help people. I
must help my instructors, especially continue to assist in lower belt classes. I
must lead by example and apply everything that I learned in Taekwondo in
everything I do.
